Postman Receives $225 Million in Funding

Postman

Postman becomes the most valued Indian SaaS business after $225 million in funding

A year ago, Postman, a Bengaluru-based start-up that raised $150 million in funding from Insight Partners and others, had a valuation of $2 billion. Postman has raised a total of $208 million prior to this latest round of funding.

BrowserStack raised $200 million from Bond Capital in June. As an API development tool, Postman enables interaction across applications, as well as functionalities within of apps themselves. Postman’s current backers include Nexus Venture Partners and CRV.

It was established by Ankit Sobti of NSIT Delhi and Abhinav Asthana and Abhijit Kane of BITS Pilani. Asthana and Sobtiworked together at Yahoo India prior to joining Yahoo India. Postman, as an API development tool, allows communication between applications as well as functionality within apps.

Nexus Venture Partners and CRV, both existing Postman investors, have also invested in the new round of funding. These funds will be utilized to hire new employees and expand the company’s developer network. Its platform is used by about 17 million clients and 500,000 businesses.

A seven-year-old business has already eclipsed Browser Stack, which was valued at $4 billion in June, as India’s most valuable software-as-a-service company. Freshworks, the SaaS posterchild, is ready to go public in North America, with a current valuation of $3.5 billion.

SaaS firm Postman has secured $225 million in a new fundraising round led by current investor Insight Partners, with participation from new investors including Coatue, Mary Meeker’s Bond Capital, and Battery Ventures. The company’s worth has risen to $5.6 billion today.

It will be utilized to hire more people and invest in the company’s developer community. Its platform has about 17 million users and 500,000 organizations using it, according to the company.

An increasing number of international investors are exhibiting interest in Indian SaaS businesses as a result of Postman’s recent investment. Earlier this month, SoftBank invested $100 million in Mindtickle, making it India’s sixth “unicorn” SaaS company.

As of late last year, Zenoti was a unicorn and had an advertising. As a result, it has surpassed BrowserStack as India’s most valuable SaaS company, which was valued at $4 billion in June. Freshworks, a well-known SaaS company planning to go public in the United States, with a market capitalization of $3.5 billion.

Postman’s web version provides rapid access to Postman without requiring the installation of a desktop software. There’s no need to worry about manual upgrades because you’re always on the most recent version.

This makes it much easier for you and your team to utilize Postman, and it enables you to enrol new users more quickly and with less friction. Postman has a robust API testing tool that makes setting up automated tests a breeze.

All of your tests and requests may be combined into a single automated test sequence. When it comes to software developers, Application Programming Interface is no longer a dirty word (API). At a three-tier design, APIs are located in the domain logic layer.

Assuring data transformation consistency between the two components is their responsibility. App developers may save time and money using APIs, which proves the value of APIs.

Many common functions may be accessed and included into a programme without having to start from scratch, thanks to the hundreds of publicly available APIs. The use of APIs in Agile software development demonstrates the importance of API deployment in software development.

APIs enable developers and testers alike to assess a product’s standard functionality early in the development phase. Agile teams may be able to meet more frequent product releases.

The API testing phase, which is an important element of the software development life cycle, enables developers to attain “quality at speed.” API testing must fulfil all functional, reliability, performance, and security standards to ensure data connectivity.

API testing has risen in popularity in recent years as the importance of API testing has expanded. Postman, which began as a browser plugin for API validation, has developed into a go-to solution for API development, testing, and administration for quality assurance professionals.

Postman

Postman was established as a side project by Abhinav Asthana in the 1990s to facilitate software testing and development. Every month, more than 4 million people use the tool. Postman is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux: As a result, APIs may be designed with greater freedom.

Postman allows API requests to be evaluated without the need for scripts, which is a godsend for functional testers. Among Postman’s several benefits are the following:-

  • User-friendliness:- Testers may easily construct test suites by filling in template fields using a simple interface. Postman also offers code samples to help with script construction, such as examples of response time and response code validations.
  • Accessibility:- You must be logged in using the Postman application or browser extension to see your files.

There are several features to consider: Postman supports a wide range of HTTP methods, including storing progress, converting APIs to code, and changing the API development environment, to mention a few.

Capabilities for tracking requests:- Users can validate the answer thanks to Postman’s support for multiple HTTP status codes. Only a few instances include successful requests, empty responses, bad requests, and unauthorized access.

These powerful capabilities help to speed up the API design and deployment process. Postman has a couple drawbacks when it comes to API testing, particularly automated testing: There is just a little amount of room for software testing.

Postman is useful for RESTful APIs, although it is less useful for SOAP and other API types. The script’s reusability, on the other hand, is severely limited. Their users cannot reuse their pre-written scripts or add new requests to the system.

As a result, testers are required to write fresh test scripts for each project. Integration is difficult. When it comes to integration, while APIs make the Agile process easier, the product itself is the most important factor. Manual API testing of REST APIs with Postman is a great experience.

QA teams may find that an API testing automation solution has numerous advantages over Postman when doing sophisticated API tests. Well-structured test sets and frameworks are examples of this. This programme simplifies the process of organizing and identifying test cases.

Interaction across departments is hampered by the company’s nature as an Agile team must be in constant contact with one other. For more news and information on Startups, follow and stay tuned to StartupTrak.
