Reliance is facing a lot of heat due to the famers protest. Many people who have extended support to the farmers have boycotted Reliance products. They have done this in a variety of ways such as:-
- Porting out of Jio sim cards,
- Not purchasing fuel from Reliance fuel stations,
- Damaging their telecom towers &
- Many have also vowed to not buy anything from Reliance if they enter the retail business.
All these boycott resolutions are hampering the business of Reliance and they have finally given out an official statement that they have no plans to enter “Contract Farming” no matter what happens. After their telecom towers were attacked in Punjab, they have approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking urgent intervention of government authorities to stop vandalization.
They have filed a petition in the court which says that they have nothing do to with the new farm laws that were introduced in India in 2020. The petition officially said “Reliance Industries Limited have not done any corporate or contract farming in the past and have absolutely no plans to enter this business”.
They further said that they haven’t purchased any agricultural land in India for contract farming and they don’t even intend to do it. They also assure that the company will insist on its suppliers to obtain produce from farmers at Minimal Support Price (MSP).
Reliance’s move came to protect themselves from the ongoing farmers protest as so far more than 1,500 of the 9,000 towers have been damaged that are in those 2 states.
