Mukesh Ambani is no longer Asia’s Richest Person

Mukesh Ambani lost his title to Zhong Shanshan

Mukesh Ambani is no longer Asia’s richest person as Zhong Shanshan has overtaken him as the new richest person in Asia. Zhong Shanshan who is 66 years old is a vaccine magnate and founder of China’s largest bottled water company Nongfu Spring.

His net worth has soared by $70.9 billion in 2020 to $77.8 billion. This makes him the 11th richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

He is popularly known as “Lone Wolf” as he isn’t involved in politics and his business interests aren’t linked with other rich families such as the property tycoons.

He owes his success to 2 fields. He took vaccine maker Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co. public in April 2020 and its shares are up 2,000% since then. In September 2020, he took Nongfu Spring Co., a maker of bottled water public and shares have are up 155% since then.

While Ambani was at one point the world’s 4th richest person, shares of his Reliance have stalled as he comes under pressure to deliver on the digital transformation he’s promised. Zhong has also climbed the ranks as China’s tech companies have tumbled among increased government scrutiny.

While 2020 has been a year of disasters for million of people, some are truly enjoying what 2020 has to offer.
